Kingfisher

Kingfishers are beautiful birds, about the size of a Robin or Blue-Jay, but slightly more sturdily built.  Kingfishers are blue with a white band around their neck, and a white underside.  They have a distinctive crest of feathers on their head.  They have a long beak which is used to grab fish from the surface of lakes and streams.  They can be found perched near the edge of lakes.  They can be difficult to approach, and they will usually fly off if you come straight at them (especially if you are staring at them, or pointing a camera at them).  But you can often get near them if you pretend to be doing other things, and only glance at them from the corner of your eye.
